Our Home, Our Story, Our Adventure

Selfless is giving someone their freedom and happiness even if it means we have to let them go.

Home if it’s a place, it’s where we are happiest. Home if it’s a person, it’s who loved us the most during our hardships and struggles. Home if it’s a second chance, it’s where our stories and dreams are welcomed to begin.

This blog is about the truth, the adventures and the experiences that really happens when we follow our dreams for happiness. Some days, beautiful dreams happen. Some days, they turn to heartbreaks and nightmares. In everything, it’s feeling and knowing we are still alive and that hope is possible. Never take your journey for granted, it is not limitless.

  9. Hi Mr. B — I have just tried to return to writing in my little space and have been visiting blogger friends, then I realized you have ceased to inspire the blogging world with your absence. I cannot contain the sad feeling because you are actually one of the first ones to truly encourage me to keep at it. If I have not thanked you for it, allow me to say so today, THANK YOU, Mr. B.

I pray that all is well with you and your family. I assume your son has grown to be a young man who is very much like you. I wish you will write again, but then, only when you think the time is right. Lifting you and your wife and son in prayer for more happy moments together. 11. A pleasure for you to have visited one of my blogs recently, and certainly a delight to click on your link and read today a little of your life’s adventure. In some ways–though we are absolute strangers–I feel a kinship to you. One is your Philippines connection. My husband and I visited Manila and Cebu City several years ago as we were involved in a missions conference. My husband spent 5 months in a hospital here in California after a tragic automobile accident, and many of his nurses were Filipino. My eldest son, a pastor in San Diego, visits your country several times a year, where he has helped establish many churches. We especially love people from the Philippines.

In addition, your view on life, your love of your wife and your son resonate with me.

Thank you for your contribution to the society of the world.

    Blessings always.

California however feels very home as well, everything I hope to experience in America is here. I donโ€™t really know where will fate bring me 10 years from today but I for, God blesses me so much & will always be grateful. Thank you for this amazing comment & happy visit ๐Ÿ˜ƒ. I really enjoyed reading about your life -where you came from, where you’re going, your wife and son etc. Your post about when your son started kindergarten really resonated with me. I’m a kindergarten teacher I am also a parent of four children. I am always sensitive to parents especially when I need to speak with them if we have a problem in class. I don’t like that you were told that your son has issues and were left to worry all weekend- your son doesn’t have “issues”….he’s learning!!! And growing and developing and maturing, etc, etc, etc and that is OKAY! You sound like loving and caring parents- I ask that read my new book “Lessons Learned: The Kindergarten Survival Guide For Parents”. It is not just for parents whose children are going into kindergarten- it’s a book for all ages! You would benefit greatly from sharing in my insights and hopefully enjoy the book as well. (Go to Amazon or Barnes and Noble) keep writing and thank you for sharing, happy travels!

    • Thanks Bro. I gave up medicine in 2003 and pursued my nursing in the hope of the so called American Dream. There was a time though that I thought I will never leave the country that was and will always be part of my home. Now I know what all my “kababayans” all over the world feels. It’s never easy to be in a foreign land. I can be an American citizen yet never totally feel that I am one. It’s not just because part of me still has roots back home but also because I am reminded each day by people I meet or worse at work that I am different because of color. America May be a land of immigrants but it’s also a place where subtle racism can be felt. This makes me tell myself once more, “life is meant to be more than this.” Is it worth it? Wish I have an answer. For now, I’m trying to live the dream just like anybody else. God bless and all the best to your family.

Strange that in all this time I’ve never read your ‘back story’ Mr. B. You tell the highs and lows of life so brilliantly in your posts that I’ve maybe never felt the need to. You’ve been absent a little while now so I’m surmising it’s another of those difficult times, or perhaps just very busy. I read somewhere that you are hoping to move again to be near family (Sherri Matthews, I believe) and if so I hope this is going well.
I really just wanted to send a hug. I followed you from Sherri’s blog today to your beautiful bluetops. I couldn’t find anywhere to leave a message there, but there’s always a way, if you want it enough, isn’t there? Peaceful times ahead, my friend. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks Jo. Yes, been really busy. I wrote the post when I started blogging and so much had happen since then. In a way, I relate so much to Sherri’s dream turned into nightmare. Like so many American’s whose dreams and life were broken, healing is an ongoing process. During this times, one realize we needed God to make it, family and true friends to survive. My blogger friends had and have been very supportive too. One of the main reason blogging became more than a passion, it’s been a part of a way of life and a way to cope with its many storms. Yes, California will be my next home state, probably next Summer. I thought I was ready to leave Texas but me and my wife want to enjoy it one more year. take care.

Hello to you dear Island Traveler! I have at last had a moment to come over and read more of your incredibly inspiring, moving and honest story. I want to thank you firstly for taking the time to come over to my blog, for the reads and for the follower. I am so happy to be now following you. I can resonate with so much that you write here.

As a Brit who married an American and moved to California in 1986 and lived there for the best part of 20 years rasing my three children, I too understand all about the American Dream sometimes turning sour. We moved about a fair bit but always stayed in the same county (San Luis Obispo) and when my marriage broke up after 22 years I returned to the UK in 2003, the same year you moved to California! I wonder if we passed each other in the skies…:-)

Life certainly take us to so many different ‘islands’ yet how wonderful that you have been blessed with your beautiful wife and son to share in the journey with you. I am so happy for you that you have been able to heal from the hurt (and it can take a long time) and move forward into this next stage of your life.

I am happily remarried (and friends with my ex!) and my now grown children are my heart and soul and always will be. Savour every second you have with your family (although you don’t need me to tell you to do that as it is obvious that you already do so!) as you grab life by the horns. What an incredible testimony you have already to the strength of the human spirit and to a tender heart such as yours.

So lovely to meet you, thank you, and God bless you and your beautiful family – Sherri ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice that you made it to Houston. Its a great place for people in the medical field. There’s always plenty of work in the area and lots of interesting things to do.
I moved to Texas years ago for work too. I left Floridas beautiful beaches and people thought I was nuts but its been worth it to me too. I live only 50 miles S of Houston. If you’re ever down near Freeport, say hi ๐Ÿ˜‰

yeah, its a good thing, its a worldwide event and goes on at least once a year, maybe twice. I wrote a post about it on my blog, will keep you informed next time.
I do agree that we have been trashing the environment since forever, might even agree with climate change- that has also been going on forever. I’m not so sure that WE caused it or that we can do anything to make it more to our liking. Mother Nature is very powerful and she is probably pretty well pissed at us now (with plenty of good reason).

            Like

            • Thanks. I would love to be updated of your environmental projects. Yes, mother nature is powerful and demands respect from all of us. It is also generous and amazing. Either way, we only have one planet and we need to be models of change for the better. A blessed day my friend and hope to visit Surfside soon.

you portray your story beautifully in words. may be i don’t come from the same country as yours, but i understand your perspective about leaving the hometown you love for a better life changes since i also come from a 3rd world country. i don’t do nursing. but i have friends, acquaintances doing nursing school overseas, from holland, england, sweden and other developed countries. it’s a high demand job, so it’s more possible to get out from their own country. your story represent one of the millions who have the same dream. some made it, some don’t.
i was also overseas for a years for studying, and trying to find a job. yet i didn’t succeed. i thought, if it doesn’t work, perhaps God has another plan, a bigger plan for you. well, i still don’t know God’s plan for me, though. but i still keep searching for the answers.
regardless, i’m glad you’ve made it and built a family you love the most. thanks for visiting and following my blog!

    • Thank you for a generous comment. God does works in mysterious ways. Some dreams comes sooner, others longer. I would like to believe it happens for a very important reason. Before leaving for the U.S., I was in a hurry to do so but now I wished I stayed longer and savored every moment with my parents and sisters. Perhaps one day, the tides will change and I will once bask under the tropical Sun’s happy days. God bless.

I was really touched by your journey in life; it seems through adversity that your mind heart and soul have reached a beautiful place to be. There are indeed many challenges in life, and I believe those of good heart and pure disposition will always suffer in some way. Nevertheless, suffering and joy can coexist together if one chooses to see beauty in whatever situation they find themselves, wherever they may be. It seems to me that you are one such person. ๐Ÿ™‚

In fact I’m still learning everyday. But I met a lot of supportive blogger friends and till today, I read their old comments and I smile knowing there are good people out there. A lot in fact. So that gives me hope and I’m just paying forward that same goodness. The world will be a better place if we give more and think of others other than ourselves. For 2013, my wish is that we all join hands around the world and make a difference.

What an amazing blog you have created. Your passion and dedication can be seen and read throughout your pages. The love of your family and life is so evident and so aww striking. I’ve enjoyed perusing through the different sections and I’m inspired to add a little extra to my blog. Thank you for sharing so much, truly a blessing to have found your blog.

One question: I notice throughout your pictures of your son that his face is never fully shown, why is that? It’s all beautiful work, I just like to know the perspectives of other photographers and why they do what they do. I hope you don’t mind the question.

I do post his earlier childhood pictures. He changed a lot and if it’s not among my circle of friends and family, no one can recognize that it is actually him. Perhaps one day when he is bigger and can pretty much speak for himself and what he wants. That is way years from now though.
