Big Sur, A Roadtrip To Heaven

School Break Wednesday, we drove to heaven away from people and everything that is negative, angry, depressing, toxic.

It was the perfect family roadtrip. The Sun was out. The Sky so clear. It was just us marveling the glorious view of Big Sur and Carmel as we slowly savored the juiciest, best tasting Cheeseburger in the Planet.

It’s hard to find happiness these days. It is hard to escape from what suffocates the heart and numbs the soul. The news is all about “The Worst,” and it seems to no end. Too much of the bad, the destructive and the greedy. Too much of “All About Me,” instead of the direly needed “All About Us.” The noise and chaos, too deafening.

People would rather destroy the spark than give light a chance for hope, joy, unity, even love.

I wish I can take you all to our piece of heaven but for now, close your eyes and play pretend. Just imagine you’re in the car with me. Be open to see what I see. Be brave to feel what I feel.

Do you see the view outside the car window?

Do you feel the cold ocean breeze touching your face?

Do you feel butterflies in your tummy as the road dipped downwards in a series of narrow, sharp angles? Glorious?

This is our kind of adventure. This is our kind of heaven. It is ours. Never tainted by people, social media nor past circumstances. Never traded for the promises of this World. We travel the exciting unknown where our dream goes.

Roadtrip because life is meant to feel vividly alive.

    • It’s actually 5 guys Seaside Branch just before entering Monterey. Don’t know why their burger is so moist and flavorful compared to the other 5 guys locations. So it’s worth the drive just to taste it. Great adventures includes great food. It’s a nice family tradition when traveling in that area. Thanks

Glad to see you again. With all the depressing news around our wonderful world, it is great to get away even if only for one day. And oh yes. I remember Big Sur from 50 years ago. Your post brought our day there back clearly to my mind. Thank you for sharing.

    • Thanks. It’s one of the most memorable spots to stop and enjoy a California Road Trip. I used to dream visiting California and sometimes I can’t believe I actually live in it where amazing Nature is just less than an hour away. Hope you get to see more of it on your next adventure.

  12. Thank you for taking me along on your adventure. It is exactly the kind I love. Driving along the coast, or anywhere and seeing different scenery. I am not in love with “tourist traps” but love the alone time with nature.

  13. Looks like a beautiful day and area to take a family road trip. It’s good to get some fresh air and change of scenery, otherwise every day just feels kind of the same.

    • Amazing happens when we choose it to happen. The older I get, the more I realize time is truly feeling and precious. Many have died because of COVID this year not knowing they will. May prayer for more time but prayers were left unanswered. So, I’m tryouts to live with less regrets & do what comes from the heart. Thanks 🙏

Wow, so many beautiful and sunny photos. You live in such a beautiful part of the world and California’s Coast is so utterly scenic – a few drives are more iconic than Highway 1 through Big Sur. May this Sunday brings all the good things in your life. May you have a fantastic week ahead. Happy Sunday to you! Aiva 🙂

    • Thank you. It’s the very reason we didn’t miss much the world travel because beauty, awe and fun truly is just a drive away. Thankful & blessed I live close to places that keeps giving me & my family happy memories. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.

  15. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy the sunshine. It’s the best kind of happy medicine there is. I agree, the news has gotten so dark and depressing that I rarely listen to it anymore. I do my best to create my own happiness in my home and get outside in the sunshine as much as possible. I guess that’s why my paintings have gotten so colorful, lol. Wish you all the best. Stay well and stay safe.

    • Thanks Maria. Happiness though we wish to just happen spontaneously and often is a matter of choosing & perspective. Joy in adversity, happiness in bad situations are real & it’s for everyone if they want to. Wishing you lots of fun & sunshine this weekend & always.

This was such a lovely update to start my day with. I can almost feel the warmth of that bright side and the ocean mountain side breeze. You definitely got some lovely and calming views. And that cheeseburger looks mouth wateringly tasty.

I know you and your family have had it pretty rough the last few months. So it’s great that you all got to enjoy this winter break time together and got such wonderful weather for your outing!

    Enjoy and take good care!

    • Thanks. It’s nice to have our version of heaven to escape and revisit when it’s badly needed. Self love & time with family are very important more than ever. Living in the moment & appreciating everyday blessings has never been more clearer since COVID began and with the event of times.

    • Thanks Jo. A person who dreams and pursues then is a person truly alive and passionate. Hope is born from dreams & courage. Something I’ve learn during my lowest moments. When I thought I will give up, God gives me new dreams to feel my heart is beating again.

    • My son wanted to go back at the very spot with saw tide pools and sea urchins. He wants to try eating sea urchin sashimi fresh from the sea. We finally saw the spot again during this trip but no sea urchins and was high tide. still was a perfect family day trip from weather to food to an clear ocean views. Thanks.

  20. What a beautiful day! What a beautiful drive!
Some of us have to find our outdoor heaven away from the beach. It’s hard! But it can be done if you find the right mind set. Being out in nature is a great medicine for the soul! ..thanks for the ride!

    • Whether at work, family, friendship, our cities, country and the world, better things will happen only if best for “Us” takes precedence over self interest. We have so much healing, sacrifice and unification to do but it’s hopeful when some are bravely doing it already. Perhaps the ripple effect will happen, it has too. Thanks.

    • Always nice to hear from you. Yes, things will get better, just a matter of time. For now, we appreciate and enjoy what’s given. Blessings and lemonade are pouring and we can see them only if we open our eyes and hearts for them. Faith brings closer to heaven on Earth. Thanks 🙏
